DVD vs VHS

The VHS or the Video Home System is a consumer level analog video recording format developed by Victor Company of Japan. This video format is sometimes referred as Megnetoscope VHS also, because it was developed on the principle of Megnetoscope.  It was the most dominant home video format prior to the development and mass acceptance of DVD or Digital Versatile Disc format in the new millennium. However, it must also be said that as a home video format VHS video definitely possesses some distinct advantages over the present DVD video format. These advantages are-

(1) Price: The price of VHS video contents are much less than DVD videos. Especially Disney VHS. One can find old movies in VHS movies format at the fraction of the price of a movie in DVD video format. Infact at a price of a single DVD movie one may get a good collection of movies in the VHS video format.

(2) Durability: It is true that VHS video does not have the long-standing quality of Video DVD format, but the VHS video tapes can tackle physical harm a lot better. For example, accidental dropping of a DVD may damage it permanently, but a VHS video cassette can survive such an accident & still work.

(3) Convertibility: Cassettes on VHS video format or VHS video tapes or recordings on VHS camcorder can be easily converted from VHS to DVD format through VHS DVD recorder or through the easily available VHS converter soft wares like Diamond Video Capture or Honestech

(4) Wide screen: While watching wide screen DVDs in standard televisions, viewers have to deal with letterbox format or the black bars. However, against this, all most all VHS video contents are a full screen conversion, which makes it suitable for older televisions & viewers who do not like black bars.

(5) Recording: VHS video formats are easier to record & tape than the DVD formats. Moreover DVD recorders are expensive than VHS recorders.

(6) Playing: Playing a DVD may consist accessing a DVD menu, then skipping multiple previews & animated menus etc that at least takes 30 seconds to load.
