On March 30, 2011 AMC made known that a fifth season will come.
Mad Men is the name of the advertising men of Madison Avenue in New York City late 50's. Besides work intrigues are particularly family life and their main harsh situations. Mad Men is especially praised for his eye for detail and character.
The series is set in New York City in the early 60's of the 20th century, and revolves around the employees of the fictional Sterling Cooper advertising agency, located on Madison Avenue. Central to Thurs Draper, one of the key employees of the company.
The series also shows the changes in social mores in the United States, and the advertising world in New York early 60's. It is a world where everyone all day drinking, smoking and cheating. What men think a lot of money and campaign slogans while unmarried women taking minutes.
The animated opening credits of the series lasting just under two minutes. We see the black silhouette of a man dropping his briefcase and sees how his office falls apart. Then the man himself is also down, with several skyscrapers in the background showing and advertising slogans. The man eventually ends up in a comfortable position on a sofa, while he was in his right hand holding a cigarette. During the initial generic is a short instrumental piece to hear the song "A Beautiful Mine" by RJD2.
The choice for animation and style of the opening credits were probably a homage to the films of Alfred Hitchcock and more specifically to the opening credits of his usual title designer Saul Bass. Many famous films of Hitchcock came in the period in which Mad Men takes place for the first time in the halls.
The man whose face was not shown in the initial generic is probably Thurs Draper, the protagonist of the series. The attitude which he at the end of the titles on the bench sits, is an attitude that Don in the series regularly takes. The titles would thus refer to the state of mind from Don. Inwardly, he regularly fall into a deep, whichever seems hardly something wrong. The skyscrapers refer again to New York City, the location of the advertiser in Mad Men.
Some internet sources believe in the opening credits to see a reference to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Thus, the falling man from the beginning generically refer to the famous photograph The Falling Man by photographer Richard Drew. That picture is a man from one of the Twin Towers jumps after a plane flown into the building. In this photo have also been several reports and documentaries based.
In the episode "Treehouse of Horror XIX" of the animated series The Simpsons is a parody of the opening credits of Mad Men to see. In the version of The Simpsons is to see how a black silhouette of Homer Simpson is clear that, notice how his living room from each other falls. Then the silhouette falls between the skyscrapers down and end on a bench. The black silhouette means opposed to the original version of a cigarette, but is fixed a lollipop.
